DYNO Day at Vancouver BMW Ducati

Ever wonder how many ponies are under that gas tank?

Join your fellow riders Saturday, June 9 and have your DYNO done to see how many horsepower your bike can produce!

This event is for every make and model of bike, come one, come all!

Rob Schoemeyer, Road Racer #61 from the Vancouver BMW Ducati Race Team will have his slick BMW S1000RR race bike there and is challenging anyone to beat his bike!! There will be prizes and bragging rights for most HP in your class.

Spend $200 in the dealership and get your dyno for FREE!!, otherwise your horsepower run will cost $25

Enjoy a BBQ (by donation) and bike wash by LIME (Ladies International Motorcycle Enthusiasts) while you are there. Take some pictures, enjoy a burger and  check out the cool alterations people have done to their bikes.

Please come 1/2 before your appointment

Sign up here to reserve your spot as this event tends to be very busy!

If you have recently made modifications to you exhaust system or electronic mapping, or just curious about your bike, then this event is calling for you.

Putting your bike on the diagnostic machine will tell you some very important things that you and your mechanic may not otherwise know. There are several different readings taken during a typical run, these being horsepower, torque, fuel/air mixture. Your Dyno run at Vancouver BMW Ducati will give you a horsepower reading, but if time permits, you may get the torque reading as well.

How it works: Your bike is rolled on the the DYNO trailer and is strapped on , the technician then hooks the bike up to the computer. Your bike is then started and revved to the appropriate RPM in each gear. The reading are recorded and your bike is removed. The printout you receive looks very much like an EKG Reading from your doctor. From this reading, your mechanic can make further adjustments to enhance your bikes performance.

Of course, the best part of it all are the bragging rights!!

Ducati 848 Evo Corse SE

With its Corse colour scheme, the 848EVO is a racing dream come true. Raw engine power is enhanced by the sophisticated Ducati-developed electronics housed in the DTC (Ducati Traction Control) and quick shifter (DQS) units, while the outstanding qualities of the Trellis frame are brought out by the Öhlins rear shock absorber and 330 mm brake discs. Corse instinct: where intuition meets engineering.

The “EVO” treatment applied to the 848 introduces a 6hp power boost to 140hp and a torque increase to 10kgm that results in a razor-sharp and easy-to-use power delivery. The 94mm x 61.2mm bore and stroke 848EVO engine is a fitting reward to Ducati's ingenuity and a clear result of the continual attention to detail and development of their twin-cylinder technology.

Through decades of racing and development, Ducati has proven that innovative chassis engineering and evolutionary frame advancements win races. The tubular Trellis frame, is light, rigid and beautiful thanks to its ingenious Trellis design and use of high quality ALS 450 tubing.

Panigale Un-veiling

The excitement was shared by all as the most highly anticipated motorcycle of the year was unveiled at Vancouver BMW Ducati recently. Electricity was in the air as two of our lead technicians prepared the amazing new machine to be started for the first time in front of an anxious crowd, and its glorious sound filled the air.

In fact, our techs are so good, they could do it with their eyes closed ;)

If you were not able to make it, come down and see this beautiful masterpiece for yourself and share the excitement of the launch by looking at the picture gallery.

Stories from our Customers

Everyone has a story to tell ... a page from their book of adventures.  We'd like to hear them so that they can be shared with the world!

Here is a bit of a story from one of the Vancouver BMW DUCATI race team members, Rob Schoemeyer, on his first road riding experience of the BMW S1000RR:

"I had the pleasure of riding my 2010 BMW S1000RR that I bought from Vancouver BMW-Ducati for the first time this weekend. The weather was around 14c and sunny. Sitting on the bike and playing with the buttons on the handlebars put a huge smile on my face as I knew what they were for. The four different riding modes are really what I’m talking about. The different modes can be selected by pressing the “mode” button a few times until you reach the desired mode you want to be in. During my ride from Vancouver city to Cypress Mountain and later to West Vancouver, I tried all four modes. Rain, Sport, Race and Slick. These modes provide varying degrees of ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) and DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) to aid the rider to maintain control of the motorcycle.

So, what did I experience in each mode? I started the ride in rain mode. Rain mode has a limit of 150hp which still pulled me along hard enough to attempt to lift the front wheel in the first three gears. Unfortunately, I mean fortunately, the wheelie protection shut me down and I could only get a few inches of lift on the front tire and for not even half a second. The electronics cut the power to the engine predictably, which made things very smooth. My overall conclusion of “rain” mode is that DTC and ABS activate instantly which gave me the feeling of total control and confidence. The available 150hp is still enough power to get anyone in trouble, but I know there’s more.....

Sport mode unleashes all 193hp and it’s a noticeable difference. The throttle response is quicker than when operating in rain mode and when rain mode torque flattens out 85 Nm at about 7k rpm, sport/race/slick mode torque jumps up to 112 Nm at 9750rpm. While accelerating, wheelies were limited by wheelie protection and engine power cut to bring the front end down. With the exception of dropping the clutch off stand-still, in my opinion, I wouldn’t have been able to flip over from accelerating too hard. This was my favorite mode as it supplies the maximum power that I love, but still provides exceptional safety with electronically controlled protection from ABS and DTC systems.

I didn’t spend a lot of time in race or slick mode. These modes will produce the 193 rated hp and with the features of ABS and DTC. The difference that I could spot was that the throttle response was progressively more aggressive in race and in slick modes.
I did learn a lot about all four modes and selecting them. Riding in rain mode reduced the power output and provided instantaneous ABS and DTC protection. On the other end of the scale, slick mode still has the ABS and DTC protection, but there is allowance for a fair amount of wheel spin and wheelies up to about 5 seconds. Sport and Race modes provide varying degrees of ABS and DTC protection within rain and slick modes. I couldn’t change modes while giving throttle because the mode button is just out of reach while hands are on the grips. It didn’t matter what mode I was in, the mode wouldn’t change until I pulled in the clutch. After talking to the staff at Vancouver BMW-Ducati, I understood that this was a good thing. The design was to make sure the engine wasn’t under power when the control characteristics are changed.

How does it brake? The breaks are responsive to say the least. With two fingers on the front brake lever, I managed to lift the rear wheel off the ground for a fraction of a second, but enough to activate the rear wheel lift detection. This protection releases pressure on the front brakes until the rear wheel regains traction on the ground again, and then allows front brake pressure again. I also noticed that I did slow down faster than what I have ever slowed before. I believe this to be because when the front brake lever is applied, it also applies a small percentage of that pressure to the rear brakes. Where else can you find stopping power like that?

My body weight had a big factor to how the suspension operates. I am 210lbs without all the riding gear. The front end was soft, but that can be fixed by replacing fork springs. The rear shock felt great.

I am so excited about the performance with this bike, I’m going to go racing with it at Mission Raceway on the May 19/20 (May long weekend), June 25th , August 20th . If you would like to come and share the excitement, I welcome you to my pit area for bike talk or just to enjoy the day."

Personalize Your Bike!

A motorcycle isn't just a piece of equipment that gets you from A to B.  It's about passion, adventure and experience and oft times the motorcycles take on a bit of personality themselves!  We've helped people personalize their bike to be their own unique flavor and flare and watch the owners proudly share the upgrades they have done to make the bike their own with others.

Ducati helps us do just that by providing upgrades to pipes which change not only the sound but often the horsepower of the bike, as well as a miriad of other farkles like carbon covers, licence plate relocators to clean up the back end and other Ducati performance components.  Monsters are a prime example where there is the Ducati Art which are a number of retro themed paint skins/panels that can easily replace the existing panels and give the bike a whole new feel.  To get an idea of some of the extras ... have a look at some of the images below.

Get a hold of Will or Chris in our Parts Department to ask more questions on how you can personalize your Ducati or BMW.
